I hope these folks all found something of interest . . . even if it wasn’t what they were looking for.

I guess we are all searching . . . for something. Which reminds me of this church bulletin board I found on line . . .

And since my daughter, Rebecca, the environmentalist is in Siberia at Lake Baikal . . .

A Russian mini-submarine on Tuesday reached the bottom of Lake Baikal in Siberia, setting a world record for the deepest dive in a lake, the crew told organisers from the vessel.

“Mir-1 is at 1,680 metres” (5,512 feet), a crew member could be heard saying in a radio link-up with a special barge near Olkhon Island that had lowered the Mir-1 and Mir-2 submarines into the waters of the world’s deepest lake.

Lake Baikal was previously believed to be a maximum of 1,637 metres deep and scientists say they could find new life-forms in its unexplored depths . . . Scientists plan to collect samples at different depths and hope to document the effects of global warming on the pristine lake, as well as to draw the attention of the government to the need for greater environmental protection . . . Lake Baikal is the deepest lake in the world, although not the largest in terms of surface area. Environmental groups warn that increased pollution is threatening the lake, which has more than 800 unique wildlife species.

The lake contains around a fifth of the world’s freshwater reserves.

I had stumbled upon your web site while searching for news about Panama.

I had spent 3 years at Ft Davis, Navy and loved every experience, even the harsh climb of Volcan Baru.

Though, I have not been back since 97, I have every intention of getting back to Panama and see all the changes.

I love your Post and keep up the good job.

Thanks for your quick response to the question on housing. We will definately stay out of the “hot” markets. Is it possible to find good long term rentals in the $400 – $700 / month range outside Panama City. Doesn’t have to be on the beach. This would give us time to find a good deal on a purchase.
    Thanks again.

You can definitely find long term rentals in the $700 range, even in Boquete! Try checking http://www.boquete.org/forum/index.php to see what’s currently available. Regards, Richard
