This Should Be On The Front Page . . .

but unfortunately it will end up on page 32 and the tabloids which have exploited this case for 10 years probably won’t even mention it!

Prosecutor: DNA Clears JonBenet Ramsey’s Family

Prosecutors cleared JonBenet Ramsey’s parents and brother Wednesday in the 1996 killing of the 6-year-old beauty queen and told the family they were “deeply sorry” for putting the Ramseys under a cloud of suspicion for more than a decade. The district attorney said new DNA tests point to a mysterious outsider.

“To the extent that we may have contributed in any way to the public perception that you might have been involved in this crime, I am deeply sorry,” Boulder County District Attorney Mary Lacy wrote in a letter to the little girl’s father, John Ramsey. “No innocent person should have to endure such an extensive trial in the court of public opinion.”

Lacy said new “touch DNA” tests on skin cells that were left behind on JonBenet’s long underwear point to an “unexplained third party” and not a member of the family . . .

For years after the slaying, tabloids and crime shows went after the couple, and Lacy’s predecessor as district attorney, Alex Hunter, said in 1997 that the parents were under an “umbrella of suspicion.” News reports also cast suspicion on JonBenet’s older brother, Burke, who was 9 when his sister was killed.

The suspicions outlived JonBenet’s mother, Patsy, who died in June 2006 of ovarian cancer at age 49 in Atlanta, where the family moved after JonBenet’s death . . .”

Imagine this family having their daughter murdered and then the DA’s office insinuating their involvement all these years! Imagine her brother, age 9, living with this haunting him for the past 12 years! While I really question the Ramsey’s child-rearing and the whole idea of making little children into sex objects . . . no family in the midst of their grief should be put through this kind of additional hell!

DA’s are supposed to be searching for the “truth”, but instead, due to their own political desires and need to be in the spotlight, often put their own interests ahead of truth and the search for justice. That, in my humble opinion, is criminal. . . and perhaps even more criminal than the acts of the accused, since the DA’s office is supposedto represent justice. Often instead they shelve justice and are just grabbing whatever they can grab . . . which is kinda the same thing an ordinary thief does. Why has the Boulder DA’s office allowed this insinuation to go unchallenged all these years? Better the truth out now than never, but how does “Oops!” after all these years begin to compensate?

This strikes a sore point with me because of my involvement in the case of Brandon Hein and the cavelier disregard of the LA DA’s office for any interest in truth or justice in that case, and the prosecutoral misconduct in that case. Brandon, in case you are unaware, has been in prison for over 12 years and is serving a sentence of “life without possibility of parole” for being at the wrong place at the wrong time when another boy (who has always admitted his actions) stabbed the son of an LAPD officer. The LA DA’s office smarting after the loss of the OJ Simpson trail, the necessity of retrying the Menendez brothers, and a debaucle of unsuccessfully going after Michael Jackson on child abuse charges, needed at win . . . at all costs. In order to charge all the boys present with murder the LA DA manufactured a story – never proven and disallowed by the judge, but never-the-less inserted by the prosecutor – that the boys were members of a previously unknown and hitherto unheard of gang. In order to get the teen-age drug dealer, Mike McLoren, to testify that the boys were there to “steal” not buy pot, the DA promised the drug dealer immunity, but this fact was never disclosed to the jurors or defense attorneys at the trial. The prosecutor’s career goals outweighed the search for truth, and indeed one of the prosecutors is now a judge.

There certainly are some honest DAs who are scrupulous in their search for truth and justice . . . BUT there are also many who will trample anyone and anything in their desire to get ahead.

In The Pink!

I promised no more house pictures until my wife gets back to Panama this week. But I can’t resist this one . . .

I’ve been pushing to get the outside painting started . . . so when I drove up today and saw the house was pink . . . nothing like the color we’d chosen . . . well the whole crew enjoyed my look of shock and dismay . . . before explaining it was a base, prime coat.
