We Interrupt This Blog to Bring You A Special Annoucement!

Rian Patrick Eaton, my first grandchild, was born February 13th, today,  in Seattle, WA.  Daughter Noelle, her husband George, and my wife who is in Seattle are all doing fine.  Picture as soon as it is available!

Rian, has been known as “#3″ up to this point, and my kids wanted to keep the name a state secret.  I had suggested, if he wanted to become a Cardinal and the first American Pope, Richard Patrick Eaton.  My second recommendation was . . . drum roll! . . . Ryan Patrick Eaton.  I was so sure they would pick that name that I wrote this blog a week ago!  I should have realized my daughter, the teacher, Noelle Leigh, not Lee, would make life difficult for every teacher who has this brilliant child in school from now on by spelling it Rian.  Kids!

Noelle teaches 2-3 grade at Gatewood Elementary School in West Seattle.  The kids have followed her pregnancy, hugging her belly and all wanting to be first to feel the first soccer kick.   All of her kids were very protective of “Miss Noelle” and her baby.  Prior to her leaving on maternity leave her students presented here with a colorful handmade book of advice.  Included were such gems as:

“When he is 5 you need to buy him a Wiii!”  (The hot video game of the moment)

“You should play ball with your son, but you should wait until his arms work.”  (I guess you shouldn’t just throw the ball at the baby!  Good thinking.)

“You know this may hurt a little.”

Apparently Rian did come with a cell phone attached and had been texted my earlier comments today, so decided to pop out and straighten out Grandpa D.  Gee, I’ve never thought of myself as a grandpa before.
